The Metropolitan Opera’s lavish Franco Zeffirelli production of Puccini's La Boheme is one of the all-time blockbusters in the world of opera. For this outing, the company offers some particularly notable casting.

The Russian soprano Anna Netrebko plays Mimi for the first time at the Met since a solitary performance in December 2006. Polish tenor Piotr Beczala, who made his Met debut in 2006 as the Duke in Verdi’s Rigoletto, sings his first Met Rodolfo. Supporting roles include Gerald Finley at Marcello and Nicole Cabell as Musetta. Marco Armiliato conducts the lush, highly melodic score.

Today's performance was one of the finest I've heard of Boheme from the Met in years! All the singers were ideal, and Maestro Arriliato provided a perfect "space" into which they could sing..

Tempi were much too slow so the youthful exuberance, even with the tragedy, was lost in the last 2 acts. Beczala was the best Rodolfo I have heard in decades (as was his Edgardo). Netrebko sounded old to me.

You can get Family Circle tickets during the week for $22.50 and Fridays and Saturdays for $42. In addition there are Varig rush tickets during the week for $20 in the orchestra. There is also a lottery you can play for weekend tickets, but that is getting tougher.

Often after a production is shown in theaters on HD, it shows up on PBS a few months later. Just have to be patient.

Oh what joy. As my son (16) watches some lame movie for the 100th time, I'm playing in the background. Maybe, just maybe something will sink in.

Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala are simply exquisite. One of the very best "Mimi/Rudolfo"s I've ever heard. Nicole Cabell and Gerald Finley are wonderful as Musetta & Marcello.

Wish you'd bring the simulcasting live "Great Performances" in collaboration with WNET. Some of us can't afford the seats!

What beautifully clear voices ! The tenor and soprano are just wonderful.
The harp and violins just immpecable in the finishing the duet of the first act.
