Verdi's Stiffelio

This week’s broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera features Verdi’s Stiffelio, the story of a preacher who finds himself torn between forgiveness and vengeance.

The once obscure opera was revived by the Met in 1993 as a vehicle for Plácido Domingo. Now the star tenor is back but this time he is in the pit, conducting, while the star role is played by Argentine tenor José Cura. Rising soprano Sondra Radvanovsky plays Stiffelio’s wife, Lina. Domingo again proves himself to be opera’s ultimate multi-tasker, having starred in Simon Boccanegra at the Met earlier this month.

The Cast

Conductor: Plácido Domingo
Lina: Sondra Radvanovsky
Stiffelio: José Cura
Stankar: Andrzej Dobber
Jorg: Phillip Ens

Listening on a Mac. AAC+ doesn't work either (on iTunes), but Windows format is now working.

WQXR was OK for a little while, then cut out. I shut everything down, tried again on Windows and am getting the opera fine.

We are currently addressing the issue with the WQXR flash stream. Sorry for the outage! In the meantime, you can listen to the stream in three other formats, which should be working fine, via the playlist links in the "Other Formats" dropdown in the "What's On Now" box at the top of the page. The AAC+ stream has the best audio quality:

I never had a problem in the past, but this simply isn't working. I did try the windows stream under other, and have been listening problem free ever since.

I cannot get Stiffelio through WQXR. Now listening on WXEL, per Rick's suggestion: www.wxel.org.

I haven't been able to hear it at all and have switched to another station WXEL in South Florida where they are fund raising during the intermission but at least you can hear the music

Same problem here-- and it's cutting out on BBC3, too!

I haven't been able to hear the Met telcast for the last half hour. I don't understand this because all of the other stations that are connected to player are working. I have been looking forward to Stiffelio all week. Unfortunately, this is why I have turned almost exclusively to listening to BBC Radio 3.
