I also saw it in a movie theater and loved it. I thought the singers were both marvelous and the acting also excellent. The tenor, Piotr Beczala, I thought was perfect. His singing was sensitive and beautifully done. Loved the production and the conducting. Cannot complain really about anything.

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO..... You complaining people need your ears cleaned. There was nothing "Flat" about today's performance..least of all Anna Netrebko! A wonderful penultimate performance to a delightful Met HDTV Season. Thank you for Long Distance Met Opera!

Technical note..for those of us out in HDTV-landia, seems that often microphones were misplaced, and volume was varied and was occasionally distorted. Certainly not a cast fault.

I saw this Manon in a movie theater today. I found it rather flat. There was some good singing, but the scenery was very poorly done and detracted from the opera. The production, itself did not work well. The dance scene was just bad. Anna Betrebko sang her big arias well but seemed flat at some points. She had some obvious problems in her upper range. Piotr Beczala sang well, but not at the level of the great tenors. The Lyric Opera of Chicago production of 2008/2009 with Natalie Dissay and Jonas Kaufmann was far superior on all points.

Puccini's Manon Lescaut ends in Louisianna. That's OK. Both operas are wonderful.

Wait a minute, what's going on? What about the last act in Louisiana??? :-)

Had not heard this lovely opera for such a long time. Did not pay much attention to Netrebko, mainly the music. Too busy. Welcome change of pace for me as I usually like operas with a lot of murder, mayhem and mischief.

I don't get it. All this praise of Netrebko. She often doesn't land on the note, there are pitch problems everywhere. Oh, I know, she is beautiful. Big deal! This is about the music. Piotr Beczala on the other hand, I haven't heard this role sung this well in like, umm my lifetime.

I saw this last week. Dreadfully flat production but beautiful singing. Despite the failures of the Gelb regime (and don't get me started on the Ring), making Netrebko their star singer is one of the wiser things the company done.

CBC, this opera is lovely and elegant. Sorry it is not one of your favorites.Hope the singers do it justice.
