Composer John Williams has won awards and fame for his scores for movies such as Star Wars, Superman, Jaws, E.T., Schindler's List, and many, many others. Williams wrote compelling music for not only those blockbusters, but also for some less famous films, such as Robert Altman's psychological thriller Images, and the only feature film directed by Frank Sinatra, the war drama None But the Brave. On this week's Movies on the Radio, host David Garland digs deep in the John Williams vault and unearths those gems and others.

GCL, Williams also scored the 1966 Irwin Allen TV show "The Time Tunnel." I remember reading the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" novel by Theodore Sturgeon back in the day, and another related paperback, "City Beneath the Sea." As a kid I loved the first couple seasons of "Voyage..."
Tamara, I definitely have to check out that Boccherini/Star Wars connection!
Probably it's too late to say, but 'The Unfamiliar John Williams' last Saturday (Sep.18) was quite interesting. I enjoyed a lot! Especially, 'Images'. It was a quite visual, psychotic piece, reminding me of classic Japanese horror stories/movies. Chil run my spine. Though these works were 'unpopular', I was thrilled with his taking challenges and risks. Cheers! to John Williams.
Rita,
Sorry for the delay - the audio is now available.
I love Movies on the RAdio, but missed it last night (Saturday, 9/18). I cannot seem to get the feed of that show so that I can listen today. Is it not available yet?

Have you listened to the Boccherini Quartet Op.64 No2 G.249? There is a small passage in there that was used for Star Wars.
Hello!
I've known about the "Lost in Space" sound track that he wrote. It's a member of the three TV shows that filmmaker Irwin Allen made, "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Land of the Giants" are the others. "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" stands out because its the only one of the three to be based on both an excellent film, and a good book by the same title.
