Film director James Ivory (b. 1928) visits Movies on the Radio to discuss his films and his collaborations with composer Richard Robbins. Merchant Ivory films such as A Room With a View, Howard's End, and The Remains of the Day have won many awards, and set the standard for thoughtful, emotional adaptations of classic and contemporary novels. Working with the team of producer Ismail Merchant, screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, and composer Richard Robbins, plus many of cinema's greatest actors, Ivory has created unforgettable movies.

With host David Garland, Ivory discusses his desire to have the music for his films "ravish" the audience, the genesis of his collaborations, working with actors, his filmmaking plans for the future, and much more. Robbins' music for several Merchant Ivory films is heard. Unfortunately, composer Richard Robbins has Parkinson's disease, and is not able to participate in this conversation.
