Howard Shore's 'Hobbit' and Alexandre Desplat's 'Zero Dark Thirty'

Howard Shore joins David Garland to present highlights from his score to “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which opens this weekend. Shore describes his affection for J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth, his special creative relationship with the London Philharmonic, and how his new score reprises themes from his Oscar-winning music for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, as well as defines new themes for this new adventure. Plus, Shore weighs in with his response to the film’s unusual 48-fps viewing presentation.
Later on the show, composer Alexandre Desplat discusses with Garland his feelings about the film “Zero Dark Thirty,” his thoughts on how it tells its story, working with director Katherine Bigelow, and how he went about composing “dark” music for this controversial film.

It is exciting that the music of The Hobbit and of Zero Dark Thirty, both on my MUST WATCH list this month, will be featured tomorrow Dec. 15 evening. I will stay at home and listen to the show. Better than night out :)
