As we all know, presidential politics can be dramatic. The climax to one particular presidential story is coming up on Tuesday, election day. But there have been many presidential dramas before, and some have had their stories told on film. Stephen Spielberg's "Lincoln" (opening Nov. 9) is the latest in a long line of movies about U.S. presidents. The music in these films underscores not only the drama, but also conveys the hopes and ideals that motivate presidential politics.
David Garland features highlights from John Williams's new score for "Lincoln," plus music for other presidential and political films, factual and fictional, including "Nixon" and "JFK" (also by John Williams), and Marc Shaiman's "The American President," James Newton Howard's "Dave," David Shire's "All the President's Men," and more.

War Memorial

"Sounds just wee bit Copland ish." What's wrong with that? Haven't seen the movie yet, but soundtrack music in the tradition of Aaron Copland might be just what is needed.
