The New York Philharmonic's Hungarian Echoes Festival brings conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and the music of Haydn, Bartók and Ligeti to Avery Fisher Hall. Pianist Marino Formenti -- a last-minute replacement for Pierre-Laurent Aimard -- makes his Philharmonic debut in Ligeti's Piano Concerto.

I was there also and I agree -- Mr. Formenti was splendid and the concert was outstanding. I thought Mr. Salonen's interpretation of the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra was particularly stunning.
I attended the 3/15/11 performace, it was breathtaking. Mr. Formenti plays with an intense passion I have not seen in years.
