Christoph von Dohnányi has a long history with Hans Werner Henze’s one-act opera The Bassarids. In this program he leads the Philharmonic in selections from The Bassarids. Also on the program is Schubert’s Ninth Symphony.

Alan Gilbert conducts this New Year’s Eve program of American classics by New York composers Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet lends his touch to the Gershwin pieces.

Anne Sophie von Otter joins the New York Philharmonic for selected songs for mezzo-soprano and orchestra by Schubert. Alan Gilbert conducts.

Tonight at 9 pm, David Zinman leads the Philharmonic in Beethoven’s first and third symphonies, plus Hartmann’s Concerto funèbre featuring soloist Gil Shaham.
