This week, hear a recording from Tuesday night's New York Philharmonic Concert in the Park in Van Cortlandt Park, where James Ehnes performed Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. The orchestra also played the prelude to Act I of Wagner's Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg and Brahms' Symphony No. 1 in C minor. Andrey Boreyko conducted.

Alan Gilbert, Lisa Batiashvili, Prokofiev and Il Prigioniero
New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts Dallapiccola’s rarely performed serialist opera Il Prigioniero. Bass-baritone Gerald Finley is The Prisoner, and making their debuts with the New York Philharmonic are soprano Patricia Racette as The Mother, tenor Peter Hoare as The Jailer and Grand Inquisitor, tenor William Ferguson as the First Priest, and baritone Sidney Outlaw as the Second Priest.
