The program features Ax as soloist on Haydn’s Piano Concerto No. 11; the New York Premiere of Rouse’s Symphony No. 3; and Gilbert’s A Ring Journey, his arrangement of Erich Leinsdorf’s synthesis of Wagner’s Ring Cycle.

Sir Andrew Davis returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct the U.S. premiere of Julian Anderson's The Discovery of Heaven, a New York Philharmonic co-commission with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Also on the program is Franck's Symphonic Variations for Piano and Orchestra with Marc-André Hamelin as soloist in his subscription debut with the orchestra, and selections from Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet.
