New Albums from Cage, Clyne and Andriessen
The New Canon Returns With a Focus on the Best in New Music Recordings
Monday, April 02, 2012
On Monday, April 2 at 3 pm, Q2 Music's The New Canon relaunches with a new time and format, taking aim firmly in the direction of new new-music CDs and offering a virtual playground of unlikely juxtapositions and freshly-pressed recordings.
Let's break down the new format: Hour One (3 - 4 pm) will be a potpourri of recent albums, drawing from past Q2 Music Albums of the Week but also touching on CDs that have, unannounced, gone into rotation in the past few weeks. Such recordings this week include an exquisite track from Louis Andriessen off the Bang on a Can All-Star's Big Beautiful Dark and Scary; a pair of works from Anna Clyne's Blue Moth and a stirring choral fixation by Jennifer Higdon.
Hour Two (4 - 5pm) includes a Q2 Music webcast premiere of our Album of the Week starting Monday, So Percussion's Cage 100: The Bootleg Series, streamed in its uninterrupted entirety. Each of the percussion quartet's limited-edition discs is unique, chosen at random from a wider collection of music, so we'll see what turns up in our arsenal. As an added feature, you can now stream our AOTWs on-demand for a period of one week here.
