Listen: Carla Kihlstedt, ICE, Causing a Tiger and Face the Music
Live from Merkin Concert Hall's 2013 Ecstatic Music Festival®
Saturday, January 26, 2013
On Jan. 26 at 7:30 pm ET, Q2 Music and New Sounds Live presented a live audio webcast of singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Carla Kihlstedt with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) live from the 2013 Ecstatic Music Festival.
Hosted by WNYC's John Schaefer, the show featured the premiere of Kihlstedt's new song-cycle for ICE and performances by teen classical ensemble Face the Music and Kihlstedt's own band, Causing a Tiger.
Kihlstedt, one of ICE's 2012 ICElab composers, used her own dreams and those of various ensemble members as source material for the song-cycle, titled At Night We Walk in Circles and Are Consumed by Fire. Originally trained as a violinist, Kihlstedt has worked with a wide range of classical, experimental and popular musicians including Nils Cline, Lisa Bielawa and Tom Waits.
Program:
George Lewis: Artificial Life 2007
Causing a Tiger: Collective Improvisations
Carla Kihlstedt: At Night We Walk in Circles and Are Consumed By Fire
Q2 Music is the digital venue for the 2013 Ecstatic Music Festival and will be the center for on-demand artist interviews and concert audio.
