Strauss’s elegant and moving meditation on the conventions of the theater pits a comedienne against a prima donna at a high-society dinner party in Vienna.
In this production from the Houston Grand Opera, three glamorous and acclaimed leading ladies join forces onstage: sopranos Christine Goerke (Ariadne / Prima Donna) and Laura Claycomb (Zerbinetta) and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham (Composer). After his unanimosly acclaimed appearances as Cavaradossi in Tosca, Alexey Dolgov returns to Houston Grand Opera as Bacchus and the Tenor in this lavish, sparkling production directed by John Cox and conducted by Patrick Summers.

The .Met traitionally always begins broadcasting in December. However Sirius broadcasts from the Met from the start of the season in September.
It's too bad Qxr is not broadcasting all 6 of The Houston Operas as was the original plan.
Glorious singing - bravo HGO.
Love Christine Goerke (Ariadne / Prima Donna) and I certainly miss hearing and seeing her in the NYC Opera scene. Also Susan Graham, a Texas girl, (Composer-Pants Role) is one of my favorite opera stars.
xoxoxo
Too bad it doesn't work for live feeds
Very happy with these broadcasts. However, waiting for the live broadcasts from the NY Met Opera. It would be nice to have the live ones earlier in the season.
