Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han
Sunday, January 24, 2010
The Wall Street Journal calls them "America's power couple of chamber music," but their fans just call them "wonderful." Cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han return to Saint Paul Sunday this week for a program that fully engages the duo's enthralling way of revealing the music from the inside out.
Along with Brahms's first cello sonata and one of his beloved intermezzi for solo piano, we also hear heartfelt music of Edvard Grieg. The program opens with Portrait, a deft and lyrical work composed by David's own father, Edwin Finckel.
Music Featured on this Program:
Edwin Finckel: Portrait
Edvard Grieg: Sonata for Piano and Cello in a minor, op. 36

—II. Intermezzo in A Major
Johannes Brahms: Sonata for Cello and Piano no. 1 in e minor, op. 38

I am rarely up at 6 AM Sundays, alas, but I was today -- the music was exquisite! Thank you!
