Despite the violence across Iraq over the weekend, 55 to 60 percent of the country's voters turned out to vote in Sunday's national parliamentary elections. That's five to ten percent higher than last year's election turn-out.

David Sanger, Chief Washington Correspondent for The New York Times, talks to WNYC's Kerry Nolan about the election, and about whether or not democracy is taking root in Iraq. Sanger also talks about the $15 billion jobs bill that Congress passed last week.
