Purcell's The Fairy Queen from Amsterdam
Thursday, September 13, 2012
A seminal example of English musical theater, Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen began life as a "semi-opera," a lavish theatrical genre that flourished during the 17th and 18th centuries. This production comes from the legendary acoustics of one of the world's truly historic musical venues, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
The featured soloist is soprano Johanette Zomer, performing with the Netherlands Chamber Chorus and the Sfera Armoniosa Orchestra, led by conductor Mike Fentross.
