For more than 20 years, Salon de Virtuosi has quietly been a major source of scholarship help to gifted young artists. This week's McGraw Hill Young Artists Showcase is a program of performances by the 2009 scholarship recipients. On October 20 at Steinway Hall, the Salon de Virtuosi 2009 award recipients received a their $5,000 grants and performed a thank-you concert.
The award winners and the works they performed include: Pianist Roman Rabinovich, playing Debussy and William Bolcom, flutist Maron Khoury choosing Bizet and Faure, violinist Kyu-Young Kim playing music by two great fiddler-composers, Kreisler and Sarasate and the astonishing 12-year old pianist Tiffany Poon, who set the audience cheering with Liszt's Rigoletto Paraphrase.
