Pianists Month continues on the Young Artists Showcase with a studio session from 17-year-old Francisco Chomnalez, a student at the Manhattan School of Music and recent winner of its Constance Keene Precollege Piano Award, named for the master piano teacher at MSM (and wife of WQXR’s longtime program director Abram Chasins). Chomnalez’s wide-ranging program goes from Bach to Beethoven to Stravinsky, and previews his recital at Manhattan School of Music on May 8.

Tania Gabrielian and Brian Yuebing Lin were selected at the New York auditions of the 2012 Sydney International Piano Competition. The competition itself takes place every four years in Sydney, Australia. Those who pass the auditions – Gabrielian and Lin are among those who have made it through the first round to represent the U.S. – are invited to come to Sydney and perform recitals and chamber music as part of a festival broadcast all over Australia.

A regular visitor to the Young Artists Showcase, pianist Michael Brown has two solo recitals coming up in April: one produced by Concert Artists Guild at Weill Hall, and one at Alice Tully as winner of the 2012 Juilliard William Petschek Piano Award.
