The McGraw Hill Companies Young Artists Showcase celebrates a milestone this week: its 1,800th weekly broadcast. Joining host Bob Sherman to mark the occasion are two Showcase alumni, violinist Chee-Yun, and pianist Alessio Bax.
Chee-Yun was first introduced to the showcase as a teenager when she performed a fun piece by Alan Rideout. On this episode, she plays that very same piece, Ferdinand the Bull, with Sherman narrating.
Alessio Bax plays two of his own arrangements, Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise and a Hungarian Dance that everyone will recognize.
Bax and Chee-Yun met at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where they worked together coaching and teaching. This collaboration led to playing chamber music together, which they display with movements from the Brahms’ Sonata in D Minor.
Program details:
Brahms: Sonata in D Minor, first movement
-- Chee-Yun, violin; and Alessio Bax, piano.

Brahms/Cziffra/Bax: Hungarian Dance No.5
