Name That Composer: A Tribute to Karl Haas

This week, Young Artists Showcase host Bob Sherman pays tribute to a fellow broadcaster with a musical game. Karl Haas hosted the longest running daily classical music program in broadcast history: Adventures in Good Music, which began in 1959 on WJR in Detroit. Occasionally, Haas withheld the name of a composer until after the music.
On this week’s Showcase, Sherman will give only clues to the identity of seven different composers, represented by some fairly unfamiliar pieces. See if you can name the mystery composers, whose pieces are performed by recent YAS visitors, as well as a bonus live track performance by the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra.

Every time I take any quizzes of any kind involving composers, I lose miserably. My ears turn off. Must be the pressure. Fun though!

"I never thought that you would look the way you do either!" Karl said chuckling as he shuffled on stage at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown, CT. Diminutive and somewhat waddling, gray and chubby, it was ironic wasn't it? But of course, his charms were too powerful not to overwhelm the irony. A sort-of serious Victor Borge, our family listened to him every week on a Monroe, Connecticut station, MNR, I think. The Novias, Michael, Sarah, Rebecca, & Judith, remember and love our memories of Karl Haas.
