A Celebration of Contemporary Polish Music | Monday, January 16 to Sunday, January 22, 2012

Inspired by the outpouring of local and international attention around the recent one-year anniversary of Henryk Górecki’s passing, Q2 Music offers an in-depth exploration of Polish new music, from modernist giants Lutoslawski, Penderecki and Gorecki, to lesser-known, contemporary composers such as Andrzej Krzanowski, Krzysztof Wołek, and Aleksander Nowak. MUZYKA NOWA features two 24-hour marathons of new music, composer-curated shows, live Warsaw Autumn Festival recordings, and a Webcast of 'In Memoriam Henryk Mikołaj Górecki,' as recorded live at Greenwich Village’s (Le) Poisson Rouge.

Monday, January 16, 2012

It may sound kind of obvious, but one of the perks of working at this station is constantly being exposed to new music. This week, we are celebrating Polish music from the past 50 years or so, and I’m happy to say that aside from the heavy hitters (cough, PendereckiGórecki, cough) this music is basically all completely new to me!
