Q2 Music and the American Composers Orchestra are partnering to bring the entire 2015 SONiC festival to your fingertips and earbuds. Check back on this page for on-demand concert audio and ways to lend your voice to the festival.
SONiC returns to New York from Thursday, Oct. 15 through Friday, Oct. 23 with concerts at Carnegie Hall, National Sawdust, Arts Brookfield and Roulette, among many others. Hailed in its first edition in 2011 as “a brilliant and unpretentious showcase for music in the new millennium” (The Guardian), SONiC is a festival of 21st-century music by more than 80 composers age 40 and under.
Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7 PM: Celebrate the launch of the festival with a concert and live videocast at The Greene Space at WQXR hosted by Terrance McKnight. The evening features music performed by Music from Copland House by the emerging composers of Copland House's Cultivate institute, including Viet Cuong, Reena Esmail, Michael Gilbertson, Gity Razaz, Steven Snowden and Dan Visconti.
Saturday, Oct. 24: Stream the next installment in our 24 on the 24th series with Generations XYZ – a 24-hour marathon stream of music by composers age 40 and under, as nominated by new-music-craving, discovery-seeking listeners such as yourself. Voting is open now.
Through SONiC's Re:Sound, Q2 Music will devote a special program to recordings of listener favorites from the 2015 festival. Audience members will be able to vote online or via mobile phone for the piece they would most like to hear again.
SONiC is curated by American Composers Orchestra Artistic Director Derek Bermel with Associate Curator Anna Clyne.
