Q2's Primer for the Upcoming Web cast from the Church of St. Paul the Apostle

Monday, November 15, 2010

Tonight at 7pm, join me for a special pre-concert feature in anticipation of tonight's White Light festival concert, featuring music composed by Sigur Rós members Jón Þor "Jónsi" Birgisson and Kjartan Sveinsson, performed by the Hilliard Ensemble, the Latvian National chorus, and the Wordless Music Orchestra.

We'll be listening to original album versions from Jónsi and Alex's Riceboy Sleeps which will be presented later this evening in world premiere orchestrations, as well as selections from Go, Jónsi's solo album, and older works by Sigur Rós. We'll also feature a work by Johannes Ockeghem, the dedicatee of the first piece on tonight's concert, Busnoys' In Hydraulis, written c. 1467.

While the music for this program spans some 500 years, all of the works involved speak to the White Light Festival's core theme of introspective, personal, contemplative music. I can't think of a better way to prepare for tonight's exciting show. Make sure to stick around afterwards for our 7:30 p.m. Web cast! I'll be hosting a live chat during the show, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on these works, the artists, and the White Light Festival!

y mil gracias, tusen takk, thousand thanks, me gwitdh (chippewa -anishnabe here).

let jonsi know as the son of a norwegian immigrant/ and indigenous person, i am concerned about what he wears on stage--i hope it is native to iceland, assuming it is, rather than mimicking or objectifying USA native americans. jonsi should see Guy Maddin's film "Tales from the Gimli Hosptial"
judging by stge show, alex appears to be familiar with Maddin. Gimli is an Icelandic town outside winnipeg, Manitoba

greeting from "el norteamericano que canta tango" the only northamerican singing tango in Buenos Aires. I think Jonsi may be the most creative musician in the world. The show are transcendant. You can download the Go tour from npr. I've seen Jonsi in Oakland and Berkeley this year--in Berkeley the same night as Radiohead was playing in Oak. Sigur Ros 3 times in Oakland and Berkeley. I come from the same town as andy and angel saur who did a coffee art od Sigur ros' logo and presented it to them in St. Paul, MN
