A Christmas Story

Saturday, December 25, 2010

This week, we hear some of the best music around--all inspired by the birth of Jesus.

Composers like William Dawson wrote spirituals that made groups like the Tuskegee Institute Choir and St. Olaf Choir into internationally acclaimed ensembles. We also hear music by Claudio Monteverdi who wrote a number of works dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and Arvo Part's Magnificat. These works and others are the focus of this show celebrating the story of Christmas.

Michael Meltzer

It is good to hear the pianism of Eteri Andjaparidze again, selections from her Christmas CD were played last year as well. She is a most deserving artist.
She has a growing discography with Naxos, where her Prokofiev CD had received a nomination for Europe's Deutsche Schallplatten award.
One hopes that her air time might be limited by the pronunciation of her name seeming to be daunting. Ms. Andjaparidze pronounces her name,
Ahn - jah - pah - RID' - zay.

Mr. McKnight,
When QXR first went public, yours was the show that prompted me to pull out my credit card. On those times when I get to stay up this late, your show makes the night. Good music and voice too. Good night, good luck, and happy listening ahead.
