Live from (Le) Poisson Rouge on February 6, 2011
Friday, February 18, 2011
For a little Eastern European flair, Matei Varga presents an evening of solo piano music with strong representation from composers of the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Varga's motherland, Romania. In this (Le) Poisson Rouge show on February 6, Varga celebrates his recent Naxos release, a disc devoted to works by George Enescu.
Though hailing from Romania, Varga maintains strong ties with New York City, having received degrees from the Mannes College of Music. Highly regarded for his passionate performances combined with intellectually-sound interpretations, Varga holds the unique post of Project Manager for the Vendome Prize Piano Competition. He was instrumental in reconfiguring the competition and its selection process and with 2009's successful contest, he will resume his position in 2013. Juggling a burgeoning career with administrative roles, he was also invited to be a judge at the inaugural "Dinu Lipatti" National Competition in Bucharest in 2010.
