As numerous ads for sunny getaways in the subway temptingly imply, let's face it: there's no better time of year to get out of town than February. But if your wallet won't have it, here's a modest solution, let Q2 take you on a quick trip to some of New Music's hot spots around the world.

This week, we explore New Music hotbeds around the world. We'll make quick stops in France, The Netherlands, Japan, Finland and Italy.

Where would you go on a "music tasting" tour of the world?

I love this theme. And while I know Brazil isn't on your list of stops for the week, the concept does make me think of France's Darius Milhaud and his short ballet piece "L'Homme et son desir" -- hot-weather tropical rainforest romance, like a gorgeous jungle fever. I love hearing it in the winter, it makes me think of deep summer, influenced by Milhaud's World War I years in Brazil with Paul Claudel.
