In C Remixed

Monday, November 23, 2009

On November 8th, 2009 at Le Poisson Rouge, Radiolab’s Jad Abumrad hosted a concert and CD launch party for In C Remixed – an ambitious project from Bill Ryan and his Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble in which composers such as David Lang, Nico Muhly, Mason Bates, and DBR paid homage to the defining moment in 1964, when Terry Riley’s In C premiered.

Jad – who is also a contributor to In C Remixed – opened the evening with the story behind his discovery of In C, which was for him "the first new music piece that actually had joy." Soon after, the first half began with a performance by fellow In C Remixed composers Todd Reynolds and Michael Lowenstern of Slow Boys.

For the second half of the program, Bill Ryan’s Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble took the stage for Terry Riley's In C with Dennis DeSantis remixing live.

Q2 will broadcast Live from Le Poisson Rouge: In C Remixed Thursday, November 26th at 4pm; Friday November 27th at 8pm; Saturday November 28th at 10am; and Sunday, November 29th at 2pm. Click ahead for more information about Le Poisson Rouge and the Innova release of In C Remixed

As much as, I don't like what has become of WNYC mixing with WQXR - (top 40 classical, need I say more?) the station, Q2, did record a great event at LPR > Terry Riley's, In C - ReMixed - (Oct-11-2009) - & I remember...
That evening ~>
I was supposed to be there... (18:30)...but then,
I was some place else. beh?
Anyway, thank you for making this recording available on the Q2 web-site.
Perhaps, in these last days of 2009, I will contribute to WNYC (Q2) After all...
It's the end of another decade...
Best regards ~
