Music composed for Westerns has helped establish the mythic character of the American cowboy. Rhythmic and rhapsodic, often derived from Aaron Copland's musical vision of the west, these film scores convey a sense of optimism and adventure.
On this edition of Movies on the Radio, host David Garland offers music from movies set in the old American West, including Dimitri Tiomkin's High Noon, David Raksin's Across the Wide Missouri, Elmer Bernstein's The Magnificent Seven, Jerome Moross's The Big Country, Ennio Morricone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Jerry Fielding's The Wild Bunch and others.
