Inaugural (L)PR Webcast: John Hollenbeck
Monday, November 30, 2009
Tune in to Q2 tonight at 8pm for the first in a series of live webcasts from Greenwich Village's (Le) Poisson Rouge, as we join the versatile contemporary classical and jazz percussionist John Hollenbeck in his music and that of Meredith Monk.
Hollenbeck gained critical acclaim through his leadership of many avant-garde ensembles, including the Claudia Quintet, and through a rich and ongoing collaboration with pioneers in new music circles, including Meredith Monk, Fred Hersch, and the Bang on a Can All-Stars.
Tonight, Hollenbeck's music comes to life with the John Hollenbeck, Todd Reynolds, and Matt Moran trio; the ensemble Future Quest with vocalist Theo Bleckmann reworking music by Meredith Monk (who herself will be in attendance); and finally the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble offering New York premieres of selections from their new CD, Eternal Interlude.
You can also visit the (L)PR+Q2 archives for past live performances, including Radiolab's Jad Abumrad hosting a remixed version of Terry Riley's In C, and, for today only, download a WNYC-exclusive track, "No Boat," from Hollenbeck's new CD.
Tonight at 8pm, Q2 live from (L)PR: John Hollenbeck plays Hollenbeck and Meredith Monk, with the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble, Future Quest, and the Hollenbeck/Reynolds/Moran trio.
