I do get the second act. Nagging wife. Wotan and Brunhilde going on and on about how much Wotan loves Sigmund and Sieglinde with a dada dadadadada beat. Hope you like the comment about the punishment for his daughter is to be a housewife. Vay Vay they scream and off they go. For me, redemption comes with the Magic Fire music. Who can resist that?

In the last 35 years I have been privileged not only to hear, but also to attend many, many performances of Die Walküre at the Metropolitan Opera House as well as the joy of spending 6 summer seasons in Bayreuth not only as a member of the audience, but also as agent/manager and often friend of the performers. However, I must admit that I have never heard a performance of this opera as magnificent as this one from San Francisco Opera on WQXR today. It was truly wonderful.

Thank you so very much and I do hope that you will broadcast it again some day in the not too distant future.

Great Ring cycle so far, Runnicles more involving than I've ever heard him before. Don't get the second act? You need to get to know it better.

But for the second week in a row WQXR has mistakes in the cast on the website. Elizabeth Bishop is singing Fricka, not some Diadkova person. Where are you getting your info and why isn't anyone checking it? I've heard and seen more professionalism at rural mid-american college stations than what the Q is passing out these days!

I don't know, Concetta. Act II is sounding pretty good to me.

The most terrible punishment Wotan can hand out to Brunhilda is to comdemn her to be a housewife. You will sit in front of a fire and spin and spiel. Her sisters run off in a panic, Woe, Woe.
But at the end of the first act, Sigmund sings Armed with gentle weapons, Spring conquers the world. Still hate the middle of this overlong opera, nagging wife, incest.

A great start. A flying finish. The middle is pure torture. Worse than waterboarding.

Good things come to those wait. WQXR advertised the SFO Ring & they are presenting it. Way to silence your critics!
