The Jacobsens' Top Five Most Irritating (Nonmusical) Sounds

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Nails on a blackboard, car alarms or snoring -- everyone has their particular aural pet peeves. We recently asked Eric and Colin Jacobsen, brothers and co-artistic directors of The Knights chamber orchestra to give us their list of sonic annoyances. The list is both highly personal and yet somehow universal. See why below, and check out a list of their five favorite non-musical sounds.

1. The Subway
2. Wrappers in the concert hall
3. Bach Cello Suite No. 4, as sung by a friend
4. "You've Got Mail"
5. Your Own Voice
