JACK Quartet, PRISM, and the Young People's Chorus of New York: Live at SONiC

Live from Miller Theatre on October 16, 2011

Saturday, December 03, 2011

On October 16th, 2011, JACK Quartet hosted Extended Play, the American Composers Orchestra's Sounds of a New Century Festival all-day marathon of new-music featuring passionate and adventurous New York City-based ensembles. With JACK leading the way, the nine hour extravaganza took place from noon to midnight, featured eight ensembles, and highlighted the works of forty-four composers.

JACK Quartet opened this portion of the marathon with a work by Hannah Lash, the world premiere of Jessie Montgomery's Standing/Forward and the NYC premiere of Buttonwood, by Brooklyn-based composer Gregory Spears. PRISM Saxophone Quartet followed with a set that included Ken Ueno's notably-titled piece from sunrise to sunset, the summer of the S.E.P.S.A. bus rides destra e sinistra around Ischia just to get tomorrow's scatolame. To complete this portion of marathon programming, the Young People's Chorus of New York delivered an eclectic program that ranged from works by Tarik O'Regan to Bora Yoon before ending on a piece by singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright.
