The Christmas holiday is charged with nostalgia and hope, so a Christmas setting can effectively heighten the emotional power of any story. There have been many Christmas scenes in movies, and host David Garland unwraps some of the accompanying music for them. Holiday favorites such as It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street and The Bishop's Wife are included.

Again, thanks for this episode, loved the music, some of my favorite Christmas movies and their scores. Made it one of the better Christmas Eve's in years for me.

Hi, David,
Am listening again on Christmas night to your Christmas music from the movies, and I listened last night, when I laughed to hear you sing "Deck us all with Boston, Charlie" and I chimed in "Wallawalla, Wash. and Kalamazoo." You wondered if anyone remembered Pogo and Walt Kelly.
In 1952, I was the only girl-cartoonist in my class of cartoonists at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. All of us were wild about Walt and Pogo, and still quote certain of his memorable lines at the appropriate occasions. 7 of us are still in touch, mostly by e-mail and we all went back to Chicago to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The mansion that housed our school is now an Italian restaurant, so we had our dinner there (in what had been the life drawing classroom.)
I followed you from NYC to WQXR and want to tell you how much I enjoyed a program you did previously, where you 'talked' to your audience about what they might be doing while they were listening and reported their responses. I know one fellow said " Stop talking, David and play music" but I loved the conversations: it was a very intimate little community!
Thanks for all you do and for making my Christmas merry. Happy New Year,
Marge
