Which came first, the composer or the dance? It’s hard to say, but this week we’ll follow the dance through solo works, the opera and the symphony. Highlights include music by Bach, Beethoven and Shostakovich.

What a wonderful show! You have me as a captive audience many nights a week as I'm puttering in my kitchen. A music topic that has been under discussion recently between my sister and me is the origins of music - what were the first melodies, how can this be researched [if at all!], when and how did formal notation, harmony, keys, etc. all come to be used. Perhaps this could be a topic for a show or two.

Having little formal training in music, but no less appreciation because of that, I am very glad to have a painless opportunity to learn as well as enjoy.
