This week Exploring Music is ascending some of the most colossal musical mountains in existence: works such as Schoenberg's Gurrelieder and Havergal Brian's Gothic Symphony, which are (usually) too big to program on the show.

Dear Bill, I've only recently started listening to WQXR (after living in New England most of my life, retired to FL). Ienjoy your shoves very much. I was an on air DJ (and librarian and Classical Music coordinator) at WOMR in Provincetown, MA, a very small Community Radio station. I didn't do my whole show like you do, giving commentary and almost doing it as a seminar; however, whenever I played some obscure and/or music that really needed some explanation I did it quite like you do. Not crazy about the Gurrelieder, but it does become a bit clearer with the commentary. Keep up the good work, and I'll continue to listen. ED
