The Holy Trinity of Contemporary Polish Music
Composer Jakub Ciupinski Curates Music by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, and Górecki
Monday, January 16, 2012
Join Polish composer and electronic musician Jakub Ciupinski on Monday, January 16 at 7 pm for the first of two curated sets of Polish contemporary music. The first episode explores the holy trinity of 20th Century Polish new-music: Krzyztof Penderecki, Witold Lutoslawski, and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
A student of legendary Polish composer Kryzsztof Penderecki as well as the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Christopher Rouse, Jakub Ciupinski has been performed by a wide array of A-list new-music performers, including violinist Anne Akiko-Meyers, The New Juilliard Ensemble, and Metropolis Ensemble. He's also a regular performer of electroacoustic "gesture-based" music and a co-founder of the contemporary composer collective Blind Ear Music.
Join us for Jakub's first show to hear music by the three titans of the 20th century whose work profoundly changed our international understanding of classical music. Tune in again Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a set that focuses on the new wave of contemporary Polish composers.
Jakub Ciupinski's shows air Monday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 17 at 7 pm with encore presentations Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January 20 at 10 am
