This week, All Ears puts musicians into overdrive. Never forgetting that technique should serve the art form and not the other way around, we listen to performers blaze through the tricky fingerings and aural somersaults demanded by Art Tatum, Haydn, Bartok and others.

With its hundreds of years of use and abuse as a tool to wow listeners and watchers, much of the program pays homage to the piano, with Tatum's composition of dizzying grooviness, Tatum Pole Boogie. Also on tap is the iconoclastic and relentless Well Tempered Clavier, Book 1: Prelude and Fugue No. 3 in C# Major by Bach, a blistering work by modernist stalwart, Luciano Berio; and more keyboard showoffs.

Also peppering the show are flashy sounds by way of the violin (Itzhak Perlman), guitar (Jefferey McFadden) and flute (Alexandra Hawley).

Don't forget that showing off is a universal language: West African Kora player Mamadou Diabaté reconciles ripping technical skill and tranquility with his virtuosic meditation, Kora Mali.

Also: works by Igor Stravinsky, Ottokar Novacek and Lowell Liebermann.
