This week on the Young Artist Showcase, some perhaps unfamiliar music from familiar composers, recorded during a live studio session with viola advocate Jennifer Stumm. She is joined by YAS alumna Tanya Bannister on piano and honorary Young Artist, Met Opera Orchestra principal clarinetist Anthony McGill.

On an instrument which is normally content holding up the middle of a string section, Stumm has forged an innovative career as a soloist, recitalist and lecturer, including a 2011 talk at TEDxAldeburgh. She is now the International Chair of Viola Studies at the Royal College of Music in London.

Program details:

Liszt: Romance OubliƩe.
Liszt: La Lugubre Gondola.
Brahms: Sonata in F Minor, first and second movements.
Bruch: Three of the eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano.
-- Jennifer Stumm, viola; with Tanya Bannister, piano; and Anthony McGill, clarinet.
