Highlight Show: Recorded in Studio
Saturday, February 18, 2012
This week From the Top presents an "All Pipsqueak" Highlights Show, which features some of the tiniest tykes who've performed on the program over the years. You'll meet a 12-year-old from California who tosses off one of Wieniawsky's show pieces for the violin, hear an expressive performance of Villa Lobos' Choros No. 1 played by a 10-year-old guitarist, and closing the show is Debussy's Arabesque No. 1 performed by an 8-year-old pianist.
Cellist Oliver Aldort, 11, from Boston, performs Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Camille Saint-Saëns.
Pianist Kevin Lu, 11, from Newport News, Va., performs "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" from the Children's Corner Suite by Claude Debussy.
Violinist Eunice Kim, 12, from San Bruno, Calif., performs Polonaise Brillante No.1 by Henryk Wieniawski.
Flutist Helen McGarr, 12, from Lindon, Utah, performs Sonata, 1st mvt. by Francis Poulenc.
The Gioco String Quartet (cellist Ben Lash, 11; violist Nicholas Lash, 13; violinist Emma Steele, 12; violinist Hannah Selonick, 12) from Chicago, performs Second Miniature String Quartet by David Stone.
Guitarist Timothy Callobre, 10, from Pasadena, Calif., performs Chôros No. 1 by Hector Villa-Lobos.
Pianist Sarina Zhang, 8, from San Diego, performs Arabesque No. 1 by Claude Debussy.
