Last week the GOP-led House of Representatives passed the budget plan championed by Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan. The vote fell, for the most part, down party lines.

But The New York Times business columnist James B. Stewart wonders where the non-partisan middle falls, and how do we find some common ground?

I made an editing error and left out an important sentence :-) The second paragraph should read like this:

In his book on Whitewater in the 90s, he accused Hillary Clinton of failing to list the Whitewater property on a financial statement. Then, in TV appearances to promote his book, Stewart darkly insinuated, "It is a crime to submit a false financial document." It turns out that Stewart left out the second page of her financial statement, which did list the Whitewater property. As far as I know, Stewart has never apologized to Hillary for his smear against her.

James B. Stewart isn't exactly a right wing fanatic -- he's one of those Very Serious People who enable right wing fanatics.

In his book on Whitewater in the 90s, he accused Hillary Clinton of failing to list the Whitewater property on a financial statement. Then, in TV appearances to promote his book, Stewart darkly insinuated, "It is a crime to submit a false financial document." As far as I know, Stewart has never apologized to Hillary for his smear against her.

Now Stewart is promoting The Flim-Flam Man, Paul Ryan, whose phony budgets only fool the dishonest and the gullible. Why the New York Times hired him is puzzling. Perhaps he was part of the right wing tool affirmative action program that also brought us Judy Miller and her phony WMD stories.
