Francisco Chomnalez and other Legacy Award Winners
Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Pianists Month continues on the Young Artists Showcase with a studio session from 17-year-old Francisco Chomnalez, a student at the Manhattan School of Music and recent winner of its Constance Keene Precollege Piano Award, named for the master piano teacher at MSM (and wife of WQXR’s longtime program director Abram Chasins). Chomnalez’s wide-ranging program goes from Bach to Beethoven to Stravinsky, and previews his recital at Manhattan School of Music on May 8.
For the final segment, we have the top winners from another legacy award competition: this one named for Nadia Reisenberg, YAS host Bob Sherman’s mother, who taught at Mannes College of Music and was a frequent guest on WQXR going back to the 1950s. From the Reisenberg audition performances in January 2012, we’ll hear Magdalena Muellerperth and the winner, Reed Tetzloff.
