This week, From the Top comes to you from Carnegie Hall where you'll hear a piano quartet perform the music of Brahms and a teenage violinist play "Carmen Fantasie" by Franz Waxman. Also, an 18-year-old flutist plays a mesmerizing piece for solo flute and gets a surprise phone call during the show.

Violinist Madison Vest, 17, from Earlysville, Va., performs "Carmen Fantasie" by Franz Waxman.

Guitarist Ashwin Krishna, 13, from Los Altos, Calif., performs "Sunburst" by Andrew York.

The Lapis Quartet (violinist Manami Mizumoto, 17; violist Xingyuan Xu, 19; cellist Xinchi Wang,18; pianist Yuchong Wu,15) from the Juilliard Pre-College Division in New York City, performs IV. Rondo alla zingarese from the Piano Quartet No.1 in G minor, Op.25 by Johannes Brahms.

Flutist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Karen Baumgartner, 18, from Roseville, Minn., performs “Image” by Eugene Bozza.

Pianist Quinn Gomez, 18 from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, performs “Butterflies and Bobcats” by David McIntyre.
