This week's Young Artists Showcase features excerpts from a concert presented by the New York Concert Artists Orchestra by pianist Alexei Tartakovsky. We’ll hear Tartakovsky’s early talent and track his progress.

This past May he was soloist for a performance of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto conducted by Vince Lee. We will also hear some performances from Tartakovsky’s teenager years. In 2006, he was featured on the Young Artist Showcase as the bronze medalist of the New York Piano Competition. At the competition he performed excerpts from Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier, Book 1 and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

Program details:

Bach: Fugue in C-sharp minor, from Book 1 of the Well Tempered Clavier.

Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No.1.

Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.4 in G major.

The performances by the piano soloist, both recital/competition, as well as the concerto performance was excellent and was nicely captured in recording. I am sure you must be aware that the recording technicians did not pick up the important orchestra sections, either orchestra alone or as accompaniment.....the sound was extremely weak from the orchestra especially toward the end of the Beethoven as though the orchestra mikes were cut off and all the sound was going through the piano mike(s). Just feed back from a loyal listener :-)
