David Garland welcomes British orchestra leader, conductor, arranger, and musicologist John Wilson to WQXR to talk about and play recordings from his new album by the John Wilson Orchestra, "That's Entertainment: A Celebration of the MGM Film Musical."

Wilson explains that in order to make new recordings of classic scores from such films as "Singin' In the Rain," "Easter Parade," and "An American In Paris," a lot of musical sleuthing was involved. As Wilson points out, many of the original score pages were dumped into a landfill used for building a California golf course!

Garland also presents some original movie musical recordings, including "The Girl Hunt Ballet" from "The Band Wagon," complete with its hard-boiled narration by Fred Astaire.
