Ray Chen was first introduced to the Young Artists Showcase in 2008, when he was a senior at the Curtis Institute of Music. He has since grown into an international sensation. This week we will hear Chen’s masterful performance of Pable de Sarasate’s Introduction et Tarantelle at a 2009 recital in Belgium, accompanied by Andrew Tyson, as well as a solo turn with a Chaconne by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Later in the program, Holly Jenkins, another outstanding violinist, will be showcased for the first time. In addition to her performance work, Jenkins aims to create cross-cultural awareness through the use of music. Recently, she has been involved in global outreach programs such as Musicians without Borders. We’ll hear her play Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto Op.15 with a return to the Showcase by Raphael Jimenez and his Oberlin Orchestra.
