Listen: Open-Roof Show from Williamsburg's Newest Hotspot

Schedule Change! Recorded Live at Original Music Workshop: Talea Ensemble and Brooklyn Rider

Monday, September 10, 2012

On Thursday, September 13, Q2 Music breaks champagne over the partially constructed hull of Williamsburg, Brooklyn's Original Music Workshop (OMW) — a 13,000-square-foot music venue and studio opening officially in late 2013. This concert of diverse new music, entitled "Skyful," hosted by WQXR's Terrance McKnight, will be streamed Friday, September 14 at 8 pm and will be archived online for on-demand listening.

From the construction site itself, this show offers a glimpse into the range and boldness of the venue's programming, featuring sets from Cornelius Dufallo and clarinetist Kinan Azmeh; the new-music powerhouses Brooklyn Rider and Talea Ensemble; vocalist Magos Herrera and oud player Javier Limon; and, lastly, International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) flutists Claire Chase and Eric Lamb, set to the visual counterpoint of Erika Harrsch's site-specific kite installation.

The result of a $15.6 million transformation of a 100-year-old sawmill factory at the corner of Williamsburg's North 6th Street and Wythe Ave, OMW will primarily serve as a state-of-the-art performance venue, but it will also contain a fully functional broadcast studio and a modular rehearsal space for workshopping projects. Before construction is complete, OMW will present a virtual 2012-2013 season in The Greene Space at New York Public Radio.
