The Young Artists Showcase this week introduces five young pianists who participated in the New York International Piano Competition awards concert at the Manhattan School of Music’s Greenfield Hall this past June.
The program features Katarina Gross and Sahun Hong’s four-hand performance of "En Batteau, and Ballet" from Debussy’s Petite Suite, as well as Mackenzie Alan Melemed’s concert debut performance of Avner Dorman’s Three Etudes, a piece specially commissioned for the competition.
Iowa native Chelsea Wang plays the modern Variations, Op.41 by Nicolai Kapustin, and 16-year-old Anna Han, first prize winner of the competition, performs Liszt’s transcription of "Liebestod" from Tristan und Isolde by Wagner.
