This week’s Young Artists Showcase returns to the New York International Piano Competition at the Manhattan School of Music for some four-handed piano music performed by Hugo Kitano and Yilan Zhao.

Then, Sam Hong, Mackenzie Alan Melemed and Jennifer Campbell show very different ways to play the Three Etudes by Avner Dorman. We’ll also hear from Dorman, a Young Artists Showcase alum, discussing his Etudes, which were commissioned by the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation for this competition.

To close, a virtuosic piece that the composer himself had trouble performing: Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli, chosen by and played at the competition by 19-year-old Anna Dmytrenko of Ukraine.

Program details:

Carl Maria von Weber: Eight Pieces for Piano Four Hands (Nos. 2 and 3)
— Hugo Kitano, Yilan Zhao, piano.

Avner Dorman: Three Etudes
— Sam Hong, Mackenzie Alan Melemed, Jennifer Campbell, piano.

Sergei Rachmaninoff: Variations on a Theme by Corelli
— Anna Dmytrenko, piano.
