Amphion String Quartet. Amphion String Quartet.

We’ve met members of the Amphion String Quartet before on the Young Artists Showcase: in concert recordings from this past January and in two performances at the 2012 Beethoven String Quartet Marathon this past November. On this week's show, for the first time, the Amphion String Quartet — violinists Katie Hyun and David Southorn, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin, and cellist Mihai Marica — came by the Young Artists Showcase studios.

In this session, the group previews an upcoming debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, as well as performances at Caramoor and the historic Coe Hall in Oyster Bay. They also talk about their experience winning the Concert Artist Guild’s Victor Elmaleh Competition and starting as a resident ensemble with CMS2.

They brought a movement – and a letter – from Leos Janacek’s “Intimate Letters” quartet and complete performance of String Quartet No. 1 by Edvard Grieg.

Program details:

Janacek: Quartet No. 2, “Intimate Letters," third movement
Grieg: Quartet in G Minor, Op 27
— Amphion String Quartet, recorded live in the Young Artists Showcase studio.

Beethoven: String Quartet, Op. 18, No. 6, first movement
— Amphion String Quartet, recorded live at the 2012 Beethoven String Quartet Marathon in the Greene Space.
